California: Insane Inflatables 5K

I recently visited my best friend from high school Beth at her home in San Diego.  Together, with her 8 year old son Matthew and her friend Chelsea, we ran the Insane Inflatables 5K in sunny San Diego.

This is an outrageous race so it required outrageous outfits.  We decided to dress as the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, complete with colored headbands, homemade tutus, and custom sewn t-shirts.

On race day we saw many other team costumes, but no one else was a Turtle.  Our picture is even featured on the race’s website!

Throughout the race there were 11 inflatable obstacles, including a 50 foot inflatable slide at the finish.  After it was all over , we treated ourselves to Pepper Tree Frosty. A fun race with fun friends!

Running advice:  If you haven’t run a race before, ask a group of friends to sign-up for a fun 5K in your area.  Adding costumes is an added bonus.  Try a color run (runners wear white and colored cornstarch is thrown at them throughout the race), a zombie run (zombies chase runners through the obstacle course), a mud run (running/cycling through a course of mud and mayhem), a suds run (for those that don’t like to get dirty), or a holiday run (even if only to watch others dress up).  A fun 5K is a good introduction to racing (they are typically untimed) and they tend to feel more like a party than exercise.  Happy Running!
