My Bullet Journal: keeping track of my goals while staying organized

I’d like to introduce you to the Bullet Journal.   The best organizational tool in Moleskin form.

I’ve been using a bullet journal since last December.  I first heard about it on Pinterest.

In simple terms, a Bullet journal is a single, bound, paper journal that includes an index, numbered pages, and the ability to customize all of your schedules, lists, to-dos, goals, bucket lists, budgets, craft projects, frequent flyer miles, you name it!

You can watch the original video here if you want to get started.  I don’t get anything for endorsing a Bullet Journal, except hearing from you about how it’s improved your daily lives.

I prefer to use the blank Moleskin Classic Squared Journal.  If you’d like to purchase one, please use this link and I will get a small incentive for referring you.  I also use Stabilo colored pens, available in a compact, roll up travel case.  You may buy them here.

I leave a few pages at the front blank for my index, where I record entries and page numbers for easy reference.

Next, I have a year overview to help me keep track of my rotating work schedule, trips, marathons, and birthdays.

Each month, I create a two-page spread for a daily calander and to do lists/goals for that month.

I sometimes use a weekly list if I have a lot coming up.  It can also be used for meal planning and as a fitness journal.

I prefer the journal style dailies that allow me to write a narrative of the day’s events.

My favorite entries are my hand drawn quotes.   I like to look through these entries occasionally to keep me optimistic and encouraged to get through my day and to plan and complete my personal goals.

I have a lot of lists in my journal.   These are how I keep track of my marathons, my bucket list, places I’ve visited, blog entries, budget, Airbnb earnings, vacation planning, packing lists, etc…

I also use this same journal for my personal travel journal.  It’s small and easily portable, an a great place to stick your ticket stubs and momentos.  It’s great to have one book work in so many ways.

The best part about a bullet journal is that you can be as creative and messy with it as you want.  If you make a mistake, you move on.  It’s actually quite liberating.

It’s nice to see how different your bullet journal will begin and end.  It’s fun to see how my handwriting has improved over the months.  And I’ve started drawing more.

Let me know what you are thinking about starting a bullet journal!  I hope you love it as much as I do!

Also, if you’re interested in buying a hand printed journal, check out my sister-in-law Sarah’s Etsy Page!  These are so cute!

  1. I love the adaptability of the bullet journal. I use dailies during the school term and weeklies in the holidays when there isn’t so much to keep track of. I’m so much more productive and organised since I’ve been using it and less anxious and stressed as a result.

  2. I’m so glad you shared this with the world! Since sharing with me in January, my Bullet journal has evolved into a critical part of my day to day life. It has helped me contain my chaos and gives me calm that I don’t have remember everything!

    1. Hi Jamie! No, I haven’t started affiliate marketing, but it’s on my list! ;). Actually, I don’t use a branded Bullet Journal, I just use the system/idea and I use blank Moleskin journals. I love the large square/grid hardcover Moleskins the best. As for the Etsy journals, my sister-in-law sells them, and there are smaller than my Large Moleskin.
I wish you the best with your new bullet journal. Please let me know how you like it!

      1. It’s arrived today, I shamelessly bought the same pen set as you!

I’ll let you know how it goes, by the way are you part of the paradise pack?

      2. Congratulations Jamie! I love the pens! I just added affiliate links today 🙂 thank you for helping to encourage me to do that. Yes, I’m in the Paradise Pack. I figured that’s how you found my blog post. If not, I’m curious as to how you found me.
